THE CRIME STOPPERS PROMISE OF ANONYMITY:
WHAT TIPSTERS NEED TO KNOW
By providing information that Crime Stoppers will share with law enforcement agencies, you are providing an important and valuable public service. We understand that disclosure of your identity might put you at risk. We do everything we can to protect your anonymity. However, that anonymity may be open to challenge in the following situations:
  • A call to Crime Stoppers made with the intention of “furthering criminal activity or interfering with the administration of justice”. A party who is guilty of a crime cannot use Crime Stoppers to try to divert the blame onto someone else. Crime Stoppers cannot be used to try to “frame” an innocent person.
  • There is evidence that disclosure of some or all of a tip is necessary to establish someone’s innocence.
  • A tipster having received the benefit of full legal advice may, for his or her own reasons, elect to waive the privilege.

If you have any information about a crime, use one of the methods below to contact Waterloo Crime Stoppers.  You will not have to provide your name, phone number or location.

Crime Stoppers will not take tips from victims. If you are a victim of a crime, please report directly to Waterloo Regional Police Services at 519-653-7700, or, in the case of an emergency or a crime in progress, call 911.

Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to "Call Display", or "Call Trace", and we do not record phone conversations. When you call, you will be given a confidential code number. This is the only way we can link you to your tip information. Depending on the information and crime, you will be asked to call back at certain intervals to obtain an update on your information. Since we do not know you, or your phone number, it will be up to you to call us.

Waterloo Regional Crime Stoppers has a secure website link to submit your tip online. Your information will be encrypted and forwarded to our Head Office.


 

If you use this method to submit a tip, you may call the above number at a later date for an update, or continue to use webtips to ask for an update.
